What is Aromatherapy...

Relaxing Massage
eucalyptus-oil-eucalyptus-leaves.jpg

Aromatherapy is the science and art of using oils from aromatic plants, herbs, woods and fibres. Oils do not only have a physical effect but affect the emotions of the body too. Extracts from aromatic plant oils help to soothe tension and clear the mind from stress. A relaxing treatment with added benefits. These essential oils penetrate the body through the skin, creating multiple benefits beyond just their nice smell. They affect your mood, alleviate pain, detoxify your body, and ramp up your immune system, depending on the oils used. Aromatherapy has proven therapeutic for a variety of conditions.

Aromatherapy- The Philosophy.

Aromatherapy, or essential oil therapy, refers to a range of traditional, alternative or complementary therapies that use essential oils and other aromatic plant compounds. Essential oils have been used for nearly 6,000 years, with the aim of improving a person's health or mood.

The use of essential oils for therapeutic, spiritual, hygienic and ritualistic purposes goes back to ancient civilizations including the Indians, Chinese, Egyptians, Greeks, and Romans who used them in cosmetics, perfumes and drugs.

What are
the benefits?

01

Deep Relaxation

The essential oils mixed with massage provide a truly calming and relaxing treatment. The properties of the oils used can also provide a sedative feeling, leaving the recipient deeply relaxed and at peace. You will leave the treatment room revitalised.

03

Improves Sleep

Regular aromatherapy treatments have helped improve sleep patterns. The oils themselves can be chosen to aid a night of deep, restful sleep.  This mixed with the relaxation of massage is a heavenly partnership. Great for people who struggle with insomnia.

02

Great for Chronic lllness

Each oil has specific beneficial properties such as analgesic (pain relief), anti-inflammatory, diuretic etc. This is perfect for chronic pain sufferers. Trained aromatherapists will always check contraindications of medication before the treatment.

04

Improves mood

Scents and smells have always been said to evoke emotion, memories and relaxation. They also can boost moods by increasing energy, creating a happy feeling or even increasing concentration. Citrus oils have amazing ways of doing this.

What to
Expect...

Oils are chosen and blended in synergy using a mix of 3 different “notes”, top, middle and base notes. In laymen’s terms, top note oils such as citrus oils evaporate quickly and don’t stay in the system for as long as the middle notes which are taken from herbs or base notes, which are often woody notes or resins which last much longer in the bloodstream. The upshot of this is that, so long as the oils remain on the skin for a few hours it elongates the beneficial effects of the oils on the body, therefore, extending the value of the treatment. This is why we suggest that the oils are left on the skin for as long as possible.

You'll receive a 30 - 60 minute massage in which the essential oil blend is really worked into your skin. You will generally feel re-vitalised and refreshed after treatment. However, on rare occasions where an imbalance is present, you may feel initially out of sorts for a couple of days after treatment whilst the body re-balances itself. This is known as a ‘healing crisis’ and is considered a positive effect of the treatment leading to a sense of well-being and harmony.

Oils are blended for each individual's needs and can be used to complement many other forms of treatments both orthodox and unorthodox.

I can't recommend 'Earthbound Holistics' highly enough. Jeanette is such a genuine, dedicated and professional therapist, who goes out of her way to ensure that her clients receive the best experience possible. I had the most amazing aromatherapy and crystal therapy massage from her this weekend - just what I needed! She tailored the essential oils to suit my preference and gave lots of extra attention to my shoulder, where I occasionally suffer from post-operative pain. It was such a relaxing experience in the calm surroundings of her beautiful therapy room, I've already booked for a facial on 1st August! Thank you so much, Jeanette
