Struggling to sleep? Reiki could be the answer

We’ve all been there, lying in bed knowing your alarm is due to go off any minute, but for whatever reason, you’ve spent all night tossing and turning unable to physically sleep. This has a knock on effect to your whole day, as you either wake up completely tired and unprepared for the day ahead, or haven't even slept at all and have ZERO energy. Before you head to the doctors for medication, it may be worth researching the benefits Reiki healing has on your sleep.

But what is Reiki? If you’ve never heard of it before, here’s a quick overview.

Reiki is an energy-based therapy used to balance and relax the mind, body, and spirit. With the use of universal energy that’s channelled through the practitioner, it’s the simplest form of healing in use today. Reiki is non-invasive (not massage), so there is no need for disrobing. Reiki helps to relax the body, balance the emotions, and clear the mind, reducing stress, increasing vitality, and nurturing wellbeing.

It creates greater self-awareness and promotes personal growth. Treatment helps to release blocked channels and systems within, helping the body to heal itself. It enhances all forms of healing and medications, however, should Reiki does not replace medical treatment. All that is required is that the client is open to receiving the energy in order to benefit, but Reiki is most definitely a “You must try it to understand it” kind of therapy.

As someone who has struggled with sleep for years, I know first-hand how desperate you are to find a solution. When I discovered Reiki, it helped me to relax, I enjoyed it so much and noticed the benefits I’d gained on the sleep front, that I booked onto a Reiki First Degree: Shoden course so I could use it upon myself to help rebalance the stress and strains of everyday life. Reiki First Degree is about treating self, so it was a no brainer for me. The self-care routine was my new bedtime go to, so I could truly unwind and have a better relationship with sleep.

What are the general benefits of Reiki and how will this help with insomnia?

One of the most amazing things about Reiki is that because it works with your own, personal, and unique energy field, it goes where it is needed most in that specific moment and all for your highest good. The benefits it can have on your mind and body are astonishing here are just a few:

  • Promotes true relaxation for mind and body, releasing stress, tension, and anxiety-related symptoms.

  • Enhances the feeling of sleepiness and inner zen.

  • Releases any emotional turmoil you may be under.

  • Shifts any negative energy that may be blocking your channels and systems within your body, leading to a total rebalance.

  • Reduces fatigue, pain, restlessness, and all the things that keep us up at night.

I found that regular Reiki rebuilt my bad relationship with my sleeping pattern, I still struggle when there’s a lot going on as most people do, but Reiki healing is built on a foundation of Mindfulness practice which is something everyone is more geared to currently, especially after the current climate with COVID-19 and lockdowns, it highlighted the importance of self-care and how to deal with our own mental health. Reiki brings an inner calm which is hard to find these days. These benefits seem quite generalised but, if you’re pain levels, stress levels, restlessness and anxieties are settled, it’s going to provide you with a better foundation to build a better sleep pattern, as most of the symptoms above are the reason you cannot sleep in the first place.
